The Bayer
company runs the last working slaughterhouse in the Rhein-Lahn, Rheingau-Taunus,
Westerwald and
Reliable
supplies of high quality animals are absolutely essential for producing quality
products. We achieve this guarantee
with a large number of measures the like of which cannot be found in
The
persons responsible at the Bayer
company have been observing trends in the trade in
Europe and have noted that small and medium sized slaughterhouses are
closing down (The Bayer
company is an SME) and slaughtering is increasingly being centralised in
large slaughterhouses. This
centralisation and the associated concentration of fattening areas is exerting
an increasingly detrimental impact on livestock husbandry, the disposal of
liquid manure, the procurement of animal feed, animal transportation all the way
to tethering up the animals in pens in the slaughterhouse.
At Bayer
we believe that it is in the interest of maintaining the quality of meat and not
least also in terms of treating animals and nature in an ethical manner to leave
the production sites locally throughout
That
is why the Bayer family, out of their responsibility towards the consumer,
decided to buck the trend and maintain their slaughterhouse and reorganise it in
such a way to counteract the detrimental impact of centralisation and in doing
so offer the farmers in the region a future.
The top priority in this reorganisation was to provide the best possible
animal welfare and as a result the best quality meat.
The "Institut für schonenden Umgang mit Zucht- und
Schlachttieren"[1]
provided support and assistance during the planning stage and while the
reorganisation was being carried out. As a result of their support, the latest
scientific findings were also included in the decision-making.
The
many beneficial effects of this company commitment include for example the
licensing of Bayer
as a business handling ecologically produced food.
The business has fulfilled the requirements for this ranging from
handling animals for humane and proper slaughtering to establishing trace and
track systems for pieces of meat in an exemplary fashion.
The
supplier farmers were incorporated into the scheme with contractual directives
in line with the company motto "From the region.
For the region." Almost
all the animals delivered to us, and up to in excess of 90% of them which are
delivered by the farmers themselves, have a journey of less than one hour.
This means that their distress is reduced to a minimum.
We
are certain that with our overall business concept we have chosen a way which
can be regarded as being ethical slaughtering, and that the increasingly
discerning customer will be satisfied with the resultant quality of our meat.
You
will find many of our products, many of which have
in the meantime been awarded with a top DLG[2]-prize,
in our own butcher’s shops:

Fleischbox Bayer
GmbH, 65462 Ginsheim-Gustavsburg,
a
well-known supplier specialising in large-scale catering establishments, the
catering trade and the snack-bar trade in the Rhein-Main area.
In addition to which, we supply a large number of well-known suppliers such
as butchers, business in the catering trade, large-scale catering establishments
and some supermarkets near you. That
is why you ought to ask where you buy your meat and sausage where they buy their
meat. Because whether the
agriculture in your region has a future or not, and whether we can therefore
continue to provide safe, tasty food depends solely on whether you buy our
produce or not. So with regard to
food it is, in the final analysis, up to you to prevent us from becoming ever
more dependant upon foreign imports, since as a result, you will have less and
less of a say in how food is produced.
We still believe that enjoyed in reasonable quantities, sausage and meat form an important part of a balanced diet, especially for children and those with active lifestyles, and contribute to good health and wellbeing.
